Using Games for Language Learning and Language Resource Construction

In this talk, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Gülşen Eryiğit presented her two recent works which use gamification for crowdsourcing language resources and teaching morphologically complex languages.

Short biography: Gülşen Eryiğit, associate Professor at Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering Department of Istanbul Technical University, is the coordinator of ITU Natural Language Processing Group and the director of ITU TÖMER. She received her master's and PhD degrees from ITU Computer Engineering Department in 2002 and 2007. During her PhD, she was a visiting researcher at the University of Växjö, Sweden. She has worked as a referee and author in many prestigious journals and conferences on Natural Language Processing. Since 2000, her scientific publications on Turkish Natural Language Processing have received more than five thousand citations from other scientists. In recent years, she has worked as the coordinator and researcher in many scientific projects funded by EU, Tubitak, and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and as a consultant in industrial R&D projects funded by Tubitak TEYDEB. She also acts as a project evaluator and monitor for these funding agencies. Gülşen Eryiğit has publications in leading international journals on computer-aided language learning and the creation of language learning materials through crowdsourcing.
